The project began with user interviews and observations to identify the specific difficulty faced during daily car journeys. Several concept sketches were developed, and physical prototypes were made using cardboard and foam to explore mounting positions and grip mechanisms. The final design featured an adjustable support system that could securely hold cups of different sizes while remaining easy to access with limited hand mobility. Iterative testing and user feedback guided each product evolution, ensuring both safety and usability in real driving conditions.

This project emphasised the value of human-centered design and practical problem-solving. By directly responding to a real user’s need, the final solution successfully improved comfort and independence when travelling. The outcome demonstrated how observation, empathy and rapid prototyping can be combined to create a meaningful and functional assistive product. The process was documented through a short Fixperts film, highlighting the impact of thoughtful design in everyday life.
